Frequently asked questions
how do i place an order?
The best way to place an order with us is by filling our online enquiry form. Mention the date, number of guests, desired cake style and theme (ideally with images), cake flavour and we will provide a quote for you. We will reply as soon as possible to all enquiries, but keep in mind that we are a busy small cake studio and it can take up to 3 days. Because Friday / Saturday / Sunday is our busy period, e-mails will be sorted in the following work week (Monday - Thursday). Click here to get started!
Deposit and payments
A deposit is required to secure and confirm your order. Deposits will vary between 25% to 50% depending on the order. No order will be accepted until a deposit has been received. The balance is due upon delivery or collection of your cake, unless payment in advance is required (e.g wedding cakes).
cancellations
If you cancel your order within 7 days of it's collection date, we cannot refund or issue any credit. Prior to this delay, we can offer a refund (except for weddings). Extra order processing charges may also be charged at the discretion of management (e.g some charges may have been already incurred).
how far in advance should i book my cake with you?
For wedding cakes, between 3 to 6 months in advance would be ideal. The wedding cake planning process can take several weeks (between the cake tasting, the design process), allowing us the time to finalize every last detail with you.
For other events, we take orders on a first come first serve basis and we take a limited amount of orders every week. The sooner you place your order, the better.
do you have a shopfront that i can visit?
No - unfortunately we do not have a shopfront that you can visit. If you want to try our products beforehand, you can always place a small order (e.g a box of 6 cupcakes). In the future we would like to open a cake boutique accessible to the public, but for now we remain an online by appointment only cake studio.
do you offer delivery?
Yes - we offer our own CupKate and Co. delivery service to the Greater Montreal area (Montreal, South Shore and Laval). Price varies on distance and time from our location. We recommend to book your delivery service several hours prior to your event, in order to avoid delivery delays due to traffic/weather and other external causes. Pick up at our location is free. Send us an e-mail at info@cupkateandco.com to find out more.
WHAT ARE YOUR BEST TIPS/SUGGESTIONS for transportation?
We want your cake to make it to your destination in perfect condition. There are a few things you can do to keep your cake safe as you transport it from our location to your celebration:
The safest place for your cake is on the floor of the backseat area of your vehicle. This is an even, flat space with minimal room for the cake box to slide around. Plus, the backseat is temperature controlled so you have a higher chance of keeping your cake nice a cool, preventing slipping. Avoid putting your cake in your trunk, on a seat or on someone’s lap.
It’s ideal to have air conditioning that works well to keep your car and cake nice and cool. Your cake is beautiful and we want it to stay lovely from the time you leave our shop to the time it arrives at its final destination. Buttercream is made out of butter, which can soften up as it gets warm. A vehicle with air conditioning that works well will help keep your buttercream cool and prevent it from softening and beginning to melt. Buttercream that is too warm from being in a hot car can slip and slide from bumps, potholes, quick stops and sharp turns.
Drive carefully as your cake is special cargo. Take turns slower than you usually would and avoid bumps and potholes as much as possible.
If you are transporting your cake to a destination that is further than 30-45 minutes away, please let us know so we can take special care to have your cake nice and chilled when you pick it up.
Please note: Once the cake leaves our shop, we are not responsible for what happens on the transportation journey. Please follow the transportation instructions above and feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
do you offer nut, gluten, vegan and dairy free-options?
Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to offer these options. Our cakes are prepared in a kitchen where the equipment, at some point, has come into contact with nut/gluten/dairy.
how should i store my cake/treats?
Our cake tastes best at just below room temperature. If you are serving the cake on the day that you pick it up from the bakery, you can choose to refrigerate it or keep it out of direct sunlight in a cool area. If you choose to refrigerate your cake, please take it out approximately 1 hour before serving to ensure soft cake and creamy buttercream.
